Air Greenland, also known as Greenlandair, is the flag carrier of Greenland operating a large number of both domestic and international flights including helicopter flights across the country. As a subsidiary of SAS Group, Air Greenland has hubs at Copenhagen Airport and Ilulissat Airport and flies to over 60 destinations with a fleet of 9 aircraft. The airline was initially established in 1960 under the name of Gronlandsfly before benefiting from an extensive rebranding in 2002 when it adopted its current name.

How to Check in

Passengers catching flights with Air Greenland are able to check in over the web, or you can check in the traditional way at the airport. Checking in online is available on certain flights from 22 hours up to 1 hour before flights and also allows you to print off a boarding pass to skip the queues at the airport. Alternatively, it is just as straightforward to check in at the airport in person by visiting an Air Greenland check in counter. You must check in at least 1 hour before flights, while the airline recommends getting to the airport at least 2 hours before departure just to stay on the safe side.

Baggage Allowances and Fees

Travelers with Air Greenland are entitled to bring baggage to check in as part of the fare, although how much you can bring will depend on your cabin class. Passengers traveling in Economy Class are allowed to bring up to 20kg of baggage, while in Business Class this is increased to 30kg. In addition to checked baggage, each passenger is also able to bring one item of hand baggage up to 8kg or two items up to 8kg each in Business Class. Be advised that all hand baggage must not exceed dimensions of 55cm x 40cm x 23cm.


Air Greenland flights offer a regular Economy Class in addition to premium Business Class seating for those who like to fly in style. While in Economy Class you can enjoy ample legroom for a comfortable journey, those in Business Class can really stretch out with extra legroom.
