Kulula, also commonly known as Kulula Airlines, is a South African budget airline offering domestic flights throughout South Africa. From its two main hubs at O. R. Tambo International Airport and Lanseria International Airport, Kulula flies to 6 domestic destinations with a fleet of 10 aircraft. Founded in 2001, the parent company of Kulula is Comair, another South African airline that is part of the Oneworld airline alliance.

How to Check in

Passengers flying with Kulula are able to check-in online or do things the traditional way by checking in at the airport. Those looking to use the online check-in tool can do so from 24 hours up to 2 hours before flights leave and are able to print off a boarding pass and select a seat. The airline recommends that those checking in online should arrive at the airport at least 90 minutes before your flight. Alternatively, travelers can check-in at the airport either by visiting an airport counter or using a self-service kiosk at select airport.

Baggage Allowances and Fees

Kulula allows passengers to bring checked baggage as well as hand baggage on board as part of the fare. All passengers are entitled to one bag up to 20kg free of charge, although you can pay for additional bags weighing up to 20kg at the airport for 110AED*. As well as this, any bags weighing between 20kg-32kg will incur an excess baggage fee of 85AED*. On top of checked baggage, passengers are permitted one item of hand baggage no heavier than 7kg or larger than 56cm x 36cm x 23cm in addition to a personal item such as a handbag or laptop.


Travelers are able to either pay for a preferred seat or select one during the check-in process. Those wishing to reserve a favorite seat can pay a small fee starting at 15AED for standard seats up to 35AED* for front row seats offering spacious legroom. Alternatively, when you check-in online, at a kiosk or at an airport counter, you are able to select a preferred seat.
