LIAT, also known as Leeward Islands Air Transport, is a Caribbean airline based on the island of Antigua. Initially founded in 1956, LIAT now flies to 17 destinations around the Eastern Caribbean region and also holds partnership agreements with leading airlines including Virgin Atlantic. The primary operating hub of LIAT is at VC Bird International Airport in Antigua and Barbuda, while the airline also has another base at Grantley Adams International Airport in Barbados. While LIAT is headquartered in Antigua, there are seven different Caribbean governments with a stake in the airline.

How to Check in

Travelers flying with LIAT have the option to check-in over the web if you only have hand baggage, or alternatively you can do things the conventional way by checking in at the airport. Checking in online is available from 24 hours up to 2 hours before scheduled departure times and available for passengers with hand baggage only. After checking in online, travelers are advised to get to the airport at least an hour before your flight. Those with baggage to check-in will have to visit a LIAT counter at the airport in order to check-in. The airline advises passengers to arrive at the airport at least 2 hours before flight times, while check-in closes 1 hour before departure.

Baggage Allowances and Fees

All passengers catching a flight with LIAT are entitled to bring baggage to check-in as part of the fare as well as hand baggage to take on board. Each passenger is permitted one piece of checked baggage no heavier than 23kg and also you also have the option to purchase additional allowances. On most flights an additional bag up to 23kg will cost 220AED* but can go up to 260AED* on certain routes, while an additional bag weighing between 23kg to 32kg will cost you 300AED* per bag. Be advised that any free checked baggage exceeding the 23kg limit will incur a fee of 150AED*. As well as checked baggage, travelers are allowed to bring one item of hand baggage on board flights no heavier than 7kg or larger than 53cm x 35cm x 20cm.


If you have chosen to check-in online you will automatically be allocated a seat number. Be advised that there is currently no option to select a preferred seat, but the airline may be able to help you if you contact them directly if you want to sit with friends or family. Those who will be checking in at a LIAT counter will also automatically receive a seat number.

Booking Fees

There are no hidden charges or fees to be paid when booking flights with LIAT. Be advised that a fee of 170AED* applies each way and per passenger for any reservation changes made.
