SilkAir is a subsidiary of Singapore Airlines offering flights to over 50 destinations across Asia and Australia. Initially founded in 1976 under the name of Tradewinds Charters, SilkAir rebranded in 1992 and has grown into one of Asia’s finest regional airlines. With its main hub at Singapore Changi Airport, SilkAir has adopted the KrisFlyer frequent flyer program of its parent company Singapore Airlines and flies over 3.5 million passengers every year.

How to Check in

SilkAir passengers are able to check-in in a number of different ways to suit your needs whether it’s over the web, at a self-service kiosk or by visiting an airport counter. Those wishing to check-in online are able to do so from 48 hours up to 2 hours before scheduled flight times and are also able to select a seat and receive a boarding pass which can be printed off or kept on your mobile device as an electronic boarding pass. Those looking to check-in at Singapore Changi Airport are able to do so from 48 hours up to 40 minutes before flights, while self-service kiosks can be found at Singapore Changi Airport to help you beat the queues. Check-in counter times vary at other airports so be sure to check on the SilkAir website in advance.

Baggage Allowances and Fees

Those flying with SilkAir are allowed to bring baggage to check-in as part of the fare, although your allowance will depend on your flight class and frequent flyer membership. On all flights except those to Brazil and the United States, Economy passengers can check-in 30kg and Business travelers are allowed 40kg. Members of the KrisFlyer Elite Gold program are entitled to bring along an additional 20kg. All travelers are also allowed to bring hand baggage on board flights - in Economy you are allowed one item up to 7kg, while in Business your allowance is two items up to 7kg each. A further personal item such as a handbag or laptop can also be brought on board free of charge.


As well as a standard Economy Class, SilkAir offer a premium Business Class for travelers looking for a superior flying experience. In Economy Class passengers are afforded ample legroom with a seat pitch of 30-31 inches, while in Business Class you can stretch out more with a seat pitch of 34-40 inches. During the online check-in process, travelers are able to select a seat on the flight free of charge.
