 Blackpool Airport

Blackpool Airport

Blackpool Airport is a small airport located around 5 km from the center of Blackpool. The airport had undergone extensive development over the years under the ownership of various groups before closing down in October 2014. The airport then reopened just a few months later and is now a center for general aviation, with no regular commercial flights available at the airport. However, the airport has often been used by charter airlines, so it is still possible to find flights to and from Blackpool Airport at certain times of the year.

Terminals at Blackpool Airport

Blackpool Airport is made up of a single passenger terminal which benefited from significant renovation work in 2006, with the capacity to handle up to 2 million travelers every year. Although there are no commercial flights handled at the airport currently, it is still a base for offshore helicopter flights to oil fields in the Irish Sea.

Facilities at Blackpool Airport

At Blackpool Airport you will find very little available on site as the airport has not been in use for commercial flights for a number of years. However, in the immediate area surrounding the airport you will be able to find everything you would need if you are flying out of the airport. A pub and restaurant is located just outside of the airport for hungry travelers, while there is also a supermarket just a few minutes’ walk away where you will be able to find all the essentials for your journey.

Blackpool Airport Travel Information

There are a couple of car rental agencies operating at the airport, so those arriving at the airport can immediately rent a vehicle. As the airport is not in regular usage, taxis are not always available so you may be better off prearranging for a private transfer before catching your flight.

If you are a UAE national traveling to the UK, you can apply online for an electronic visa waiver which permits stays of up to 30 days in the country. In Blackpool the weather can get quite enjoyable over the summer with average highs of around 19 degrees in July and August, although it tends to be rather cold for the rest of the year so bring warm clothing with you.
