Bangalore Airport

Bangalore Airport, also known as Bengaluru International Airport or Kempegowda International Airport, is the primary airport serving the city of Bangalore. The airport is situated around 40km outside of the city and only recently opened in 2008. Since opening the airport has grown significantly and now ranks as the third busiest airport in the country handling over 22 million passengers each year.

Terminals at Bangalore Airport

Currently Bangalore Airport only has a single passenger terminal in operation, but plans to construct a second terminal are well underway and expected to be completed by 2022. Terminal 1 was opened in 2008 and handles both domestic and international flights, with an annual passenger capacity of around 20 million.

The planned Terminal 2 will expand the airport’s capacity significantly, with the new terminal estimated to handle an additional 15 million passengers a year in 2022 and up to 55 million when it is fully complete.

Facilities at Bangalore Airport

As a large and modern airport, there is a wide range of facilities and amenities available for passengers awaiting flights at Bangalore Airport. Many restaurants and eateries are open to travelers offering a varied palate of cuisines, so you’re sure to find something you like whether it’s Western fast food or authentic Indian cuisine. If you want to relax and enjoy a drink there are many cafes serving snacks and hot drinks as well as a couple of bars serving alcoholic beverages.

Extensive duty free shopping can be found in the international section of the airport in both the Arrivals and Departures areas, so you can pick up some goods upon arrival or just before flying out. There are also a range of retail stores available throughout the airport if you want to pass the time browsing through the shops.

As well as some airlines boasting their own private lounges, there are many airport lounges open to all travelers for a fee to be paid at the door. Complimentary Wi-Fi is also available through the airport so you can stay connected wherever you are.

Bangalore Airport Travel Information

Getting from Bangalore Airport into the center of the city is possible in a number of different ways. There is a dedicated airport shuttle bus service running frequently and at all hours of the day, with the journey only taking around 30 minutes. This shuttle bus departs just outside of the terminal building so it isn’t far to walk whether you’re leaving or arriving at the airport.

If you want to reach your destination directly then a taxi is the best option for you. Taxis can be found right outside the terminal building and are operated by official taxi partners of the airport. All taxis are metered and air conditioned so that travelers can enjoy a fair and comfortable journey to their destination.

There are many car rental companies operating at the airport for those who would like to use their own vehicle during their stay. Additionally, private vehicle owners will find there is both short and long term parking available at the airport at affordable rates.
