Delhi Airport, usually known as Indira Gandhi International Airport, is located 16km from the center of Delhi and handles a wide variety of flights including direct flights from the UAE. The airport is India’s busiest passenger airport, serving over 65 million travelers every year. Noted for its excellent facilities and efficiency, Delhi Airport is the regular recipient of awards so most travelers spending time at the airport report a pleasant and enjoyable stay.

Terminals at Delhi Airport

Delhi Airport currently has three operational passenger terminals with an additional three terminals planned to bring the projected passenger capacity up to 100 million a year. Terminal 1 is primarily dedicated to budget airlines, whilst Terminal 2 has recently benefited from renovation work in 2017 and is now taking on more and more flights each year in addition to Hajj flights.

Terminal 3 was opened in 2010 and serves both domestic and international carriers. The terminal is one of the largest in the world and offers a wealth of shops, restaurants and other facilities. A free shuttle bus service runs between Terminals 1 and 2 to Terminal 3 every 20 minutes for those needing to transfer.

Facilities at Delhi Airport

A substantial range of facilities and amenities are available to passengers flying in and out of Delhi Airport. Although the best choice of shops and restaurants are located in Terminal 3, there are still ample choices for those catching flights from other terminals. Additionally, free Wi-Fi is available throughout the airport.

The airport caters well to disabled passengers. Those needing special assistance are advised to contact your airline before arriving at the airport to ensure all your provisions are met. There are many restaurants, cafés and eateries open in Terminal 3 including a large food court, whilst passengers at Terminal 1 can also enjoy a range of fast food outlets and cafés including a buffet restaurant.

Delhi Airport also houses a number of airport lounges providing a relaxing environment and comfortable amenities including showers and refreshments. Sleeping Pods in the Departure area of Terminal 3 are a great way to catch up on some sleep, while spa treatments are available at both Terminal 1 and 3.

A wide array of shops are open at Terminal 1 and 3 ranging from basic newsagents to high-end designer stores. Duty-free shopping is available in Terminal 3 alongside leading designer brands such as Swarovski and Armani Jeans. Passengers at Terminal 1 can explore the range of gift stores and newsagents to pick up some last-minute souvenirs or travel essentials.

Delhi Airport Travel Information

Delhi Airport is accessible by public transportation including a fast Metro service from central New Delhi. This Metro service runs from Terminal 3 on the Orange Line, taking around 25 minutes to New Delhi Station. Passengers coming from Terminal 1 can hop on the free shuttle service to Terminal 3 before continuing onto the Metro system. Alternatively, a bus service runs from Terminal 3 every 30 minutes and also stops at New Delhi Station.

Taxis are another way to get around and are readily available just outside the Arrivals area of each terminal. Passengers with private vehicles will find both short and long term parking available at Delhi Airport at reasonable rates. Additionally, car rental companies operate at the airport for those looking for their own vehicle during their stay.
