Hamad International Airport
Hamad International Airport serves Doha, the capital of Qatar. The airport, formerly known as New Doha International Airport, opened in 2014 and has two runways and one passenger terminal with plans for a second terminal in progress. The airport is approximately 18 km from the West Bay district of Qatar.

Hamad International Airport currently has one operational passenger terminal, although a second terminal is planned for the future. Passenger trains have recently opened at the airport, providing quick and seamless transportation between the south and north areas of the terminal. The journey time on this service is only around 90 seconds. The airport is the operating hub of Qatar Airways, the national airline of Qatar and a leading presence in global aviation.

Many of the world’s leading premium and designer brands can be found at the airport alongside duty-free goods, bookstores and travel shops. The airport offers a wide palate of dining opportunities ranging from fast food chains to higher-end establishments and everything in between. Passengers traveling with children and infants can benefit from dedicated play areas and parent’s rooms for privacy. There is also a special lounge for unaccompanied minors complete with entertainment, refreshments and personal escorts to and from flights.
Hamad International Airport is suitable for those requiring special assistance and makes many provisions for disabled passengers. As a barrier-free airport, travelers with reduced mobility can easily navigate their way through the airport and stay in the dedicated lounge before flights. Airlines are also able to provide a personal attendant to provide assistance during your time at the airport, although you will need to contact your airline at least 48 hours before your flight. Additional amenities available at the airport include free Wi-Fi, currency and banking services and even an on-site spa and fitness center.
Hamad International Airport Travel Information
There are a number of transportation options when getting to and from Hamad International Airport. Vehicle owners can utilize the extensive car parking facilities at the airport. Short-term car parking is available either side of the passenger terminal, providing parking for a period of up to 15 days. The long term car park is at the southern side of the passenger terminal and offers parking for a period of up to 60 days along with a free shuttle to the terminal every 15-20 minutes.
The airport is also served by a number of bus routes for those who would prefer to catch public transport. It is advisable to purchase a local travel smartcard (Karwa Smartcard) as you will need it to pay your bus fare. Taxis are another popular way to get around Doha and are readily available at the airport Taxi Pavilion. All taxis are state-owned and metered and offer a direct route to your destination. Be advised that taxis are only able to accept Qatari Riyals, the local currency in the country. Private chauffeur-driven limousines can also be arranged in the Arrivals hall.
Multiple car rental companies also operate at Hamad International Airport for travelers looking for their own vehicle. You can either book your vehicle in advance or arrange a vehicle as you arrive by visiting the car hire kiosks in the Arrivals hall.
