Djibouti Airport

Djibouti Airport

Djibouti-Ambouli International Airport is the main airport serving Djibouti located around 5 km from Djibouti City. Comprised of a single passenger terminal, the airport handles a range of regional and international flights including direct flights from the UAE. The history of the airport stretches back all the way to 1948 and it was expanded during the 1970s, while it is now jointly used for civilian and military aviation.

Terminals at Djibouti Airport

There is just the one passenger terminal at Djibouti-Ambouli International Airport along with a VIP terminal. The airport is fairly small, so travelers waiting for flights should not expect much in terms of amenities. However, this makes transferring between flights a lot easier as you do not have a lengthy journey on your hands.

Facilities at Djibouti Airport

At Djibouti-Ambouli International Airport you will be able to find the basic facilities and services you would expect, but the airport is lacking when it comes to shopping and dining options so you may want to bring everything you need with you to the airport. Along with a couple of snack bars where you can enjoy some refreshments, there is duty-free shopping available on site so you can pick up some discounted goods before catching your flight. However, other than this the airport offers very little, although you can access Wi-Fi to get online. Any travelers that will require special assistance at the airport should contact your airline at least 48 hours before getting to the airport.

Djibouti Airport Travel Information

The most popular way for travelers arriving in Djibouti to reach their destination is to take a taxi. Taxis are available just outside of the terminal and come with a fixed rate to certain destinations like the city center, so you can agree upon a fair price before setting off. However, many hotels in the region provide their own shuttle services for guests, so if you are staying at a hotel (find great hotel deals in Djibouti) it would be advisable to check with them before setting off. UAE nationals traveling to Djibouti will be able to get a visa upon arrival. You can expect the weather to be very hot over the summer, with average highs exceeding 40 degrees from June to August.
