Sydney Airport, known also as Kingsford Smith Airport, is the main international airport serving Sydney and Australia’s busiest airport handling over 41 million passengers every year. Sydney Airport is situated only 8km south of central Sydney so it is only a quick journey to and from the airport. There are a large number of both domestic and international flights departing from Sydney Airport including flights to Abu Dhabi and Dubai.  

Terminals at Sydney Airport

Sydney Airport is comprised of three passenger terminals. Terminal 1 is known as the International Terminal, while Terminals 2 and 3 are dedicated to domestic operations. While Terminals 2 and 3 are connected to each other, the International Terminal is situated opposite and will require a longer transfer time if you need to transfer between flights.

Getting to Terminal 1 from the other terminals is possible either by bus or train - the train only takes 2 minutes, while the bus journey takes 10 minutes. It is also possible to take a taxi to make the journey which will only take 10 minutes.

Amenities at Sydney Airport

There is a wide selection of amenities and facilities available to travelers at Sydney Airport so you won’t be short on things to do. There are dozens of places to eat and drink ranging from quick food outlets to quality restaurants, so you can either grab a quick bite to eat or sit down and enjoy a meal. The airport also boasts a number of cafes and bars if you want somewhere to relax and sip on a drink whilst waiting for your flight.

Sydney Airport is home to a large range of shops offering everything from the latest luxury goods to basic travel essentials, so you are sure to find everything you need. Extensive duty free shopping can also be found in the International Terminal, giving travelers the chance to pick up some cheap goods before flying out. Other essentials such as currency exchanges, pharmacies and banks are available to passengers to ensure you are prepared for your journey.

Many airport lounges are open at Sydney Airport to travelers, some of which allow you to pay a fee on the door to enter. It is also possible to access Wi-Fi anywhere in the airport free of charge so you can stay connected. Travelers with children will be pleased to know there is a dedicated children’s play area and cinema located in the International Terminal, while baby care facilities are situated throughout the airport.

Sydney Airport Travel Information

There are a variety of ways to get to and from Sydney Airport whether it’s by public or private transportation. The quickest way to get into central Sydney from the airport is by train from each terminal, with the journey only taking 13 minutes. Public buses also run to and from the airport stopping at Terminals 1 and 3 and can take you into Sydney and the surrounding area.

Alternatively, you can arrange for private transportation whether it’s by taxi or private limousine. Taxis are readily available outside each of the terminals and there is also a private limousine counter situated in the International Terminal.

If you wanted the use of your own vehicle during your trip, a number of leading car hire companies are available at the airport. Short and long term parking can also be found if you will be driving your own car to the airport - you can also pre-book parking over the web and even arrange for valet parking.
