Car Rental in Ibiza
Although famous worldwide for its lively party scene and world-class nightclubs, Ibiza offers far more including ancient towns, stunning coastlines and colorful festivals to keep travelers occupied all year round. Public transport is rather limited on the island and many hidden gems are off the beaten track, so renting your own vehicle is a fantastic way to explore Ibiza.
Where to rent a car in Ibiza
Car rental is very popular in Ibiza and you will find a range of international car rental providers at Ibiza Airport including Enterprise, Sixt, Europcar, Hertz and Avis. All counters are conveniently situated in the arrivals area of the passenger terminal. There are also international and local companies across the island including many in Ibiza Town, especially around the port area. Be aware that demand for car rentals is very high during the peak summer travel season, so it is best to pre-book your vehicle before your journey.
Driving in Ibiza
You need to be extra careful when driving around Ibiza as local drivers are notoriously reckless and many of the roads across the island are narrow and winding. If you are a non-EU citizen you will be required to have an International Driving Permit along with your national driving license to drive in the country. While the road infrastructure is generally just fine, some of the beaches and other hidden gems across the island are connected by dirt tracks so a 4x4 can come in handy for intrepid explorers. The roads will be noticeably busier over the peak travel season so expect more traffic in central areas like Ibiza Town and San Antonio.
Parking in Ibiza
There are parking lots in Ibiza along with street parking available, but spaces are hotly contested over the summer so you may have to drive around a bit before finding somewhere. Street parking spots requiring payment are marked in blue and can be paid at a machine – you will usually pay 5 AED per hour with a maximum 2 hour stay. Private parking lots are also plentiful across Ibiza but will be a little more expensive at around 8 AED per hour but won’t come with a time limit. Alternatively, there are a select number of free parking lots on the outskirts of Ibiza Town or San Antonio. It's always worth checking with your hotel to see if parking is provided.
