Car Rental in Nice
Nice is located in the heart of the French Riviera along France’s beautiful southern coast and ranks as one of Europe’s most popular travel destinations. Here you can spend your days strolling along the picturesque Promenade des Anglais or check out the many interesting historical landmarks and excellent museums the city has to offer. Renting a vehicle in Nice will also open up many day-trip opportunities in the surrounding region which is home to famous resorts like Saint-Tropez as well as the iconic city-state of Monaco.
Where to rent a car in Nice
You will find many international car rental companies operating at Nice Cote d’Azur International Airport including Europcar, Sixt, Enterprise, Avis and Budget. Counters are situated in both passenger terminals at the airport and there is also a Car Rental Center which you can reach via a free shuttle bus from the airport. Car rental office locations are also plentiful within the city of Nice itself including many situated within close proximity to Gare de Nice Ville train station.
Driving in Nice
It is generally a pleasant experience driving around Nice given the good quality roads and fantastic views, although the region around Nice has a poor traffic safety record by French standards. The city center will be jam-packed during the morning and evening rush hours and also gets heavily congested during the peak summer travel season, so try to avoid the center whenever you can. While the wider Nice area is served by spacious and modern roads, it can be difficult navigating the compact city center which also has a one-way system in place. This is why it’s a good idea to invest in a satnav unit to help you navigate the streets. Nice enjoys excellent connections to other cities and towns in the region via modern highways such as Cannes and Monaco, so you can easily get around and explore with your own rental vehicle.
Parking in Nice
Parking will be very hard to come by in central areas of Nice so it is usually best to find somewhere to park outside the main center before traveling in by public transport. There is also a maximum stay of 2 hours for street parking in central Nice which is in operation from 09.00-20.00 which will cost you around 6 AED per hour. A better alternative is to find one of the multistorey and underground parking lots which will be a little more expensive (7-15 AED per hour) but will permit longer stays. There are several parking lots nearby to the Promenade des Anglais but availability isn’t always guaranteed. If you are staying in a hotel located centrally in Nice they won’t all offer parking but they will usually be able to provide reliable advice for parking arrangements.
Where to go around Nice

For a more gentle experience of the incredible coastline around Nice, head to Coco Beach just a short drive from the port and enjoy the cliff walk and the amazing views along the way. The charming village of Eze is one of the most popular destinations in the region located atop a mountain and only 30 minutes by car from Nice, while the glitzy city of Monaco is also just half an hour away with its colorful casinos, luxurious shopping and affluent air.
