Cairo International Airport (CAI) is located 13.5 miles (22.5 km) northeast of Cairo in Heliopolis. It takes approximately 30 minutes by car or taxi. Public buses run to a number of destinations in the city taking from between 35 and 60 minutes. A shuttle bus service connects the airport with Heliopolis and central Cairo in 45 minutes and operates at half-hourly intervals. Car rental in Cairo is also available.

When to go to Cairo

Cairo is a hot and sunny destination making it ideal for visiting at any time of year. Those that want to experience and extra dose of art and culture should visit in November for the international film festival.

Winter (December and January) is cool, with temperatures around 20°C (68°F) however this is when Ramadan takes place meaning many eateries close during the day and some bars for the entire month.
