What to see and do in Hyderabad
Hyderabad’s old heart is a delight of ancient architecture, bustling noisy markets selling colorful mountains of spices; cattle roam the streets dodging the nippy rickshaws and tuk tuks that dart around the city. Colors, languages and aromas assault the senses in a good way as wafts of delicious local cuisine come from the many street food stalls. Once stately architecture lies a little faded around the edges but the more beautiful for it as the legacy of colonialism nestles among the city’s own culture. Magical mosques, elegant palaces and tombs are a remnant from the days when pearls and diamonds were traded in Hyderabad, adding an air of historic glamour to the place. As well as its beautiful historic center, Hyderabad has a contemporary side too with glittering malls, skyscrapers, chic restaurants and bars that jostle for space next to the local curry and tea houses. Hyderabad is a jumble of leafy parks and dusty roads, soaring glass towers and crumbling ruins but this collision of cultures is part of what makes it so special.
