Flying to Vidyanagar
Vidyanagar is served by Jindal Yijaynagar Airport, often shortened simply to Vidyanagar Airport. The airport was for a long time a private airstrip used for business purposes until it began operating commercial flights in 2006. Currently the airport handles two regular flight services to and from Bengaluru and Hyderabad with TruJet. The airport itself is set within a single terminal building and is served by one runway. The airport is situated just above the town of Vidyanagar and is around 35 km from Bellary. You won’t find many services and amenities in the airport so you are best off bringing everything essential you need with you. Vidyanagar Airport does not currently handle any international flights, so travelers coming from the UAE will need to make a transfer before continuing onwards to Vidyanagar.
Arriving in Vidyanagar
Upon arrival in Vidyanagar you will find local taxis and auto-rickshaws serving the airport. With some companies it may be possible to prearrange your airport transfer before catching your flight to agree upon a fair price. Alternatively, if you are staying with a hotel or resort in the region it is worth inquiring whether they offer their own transport services as this can be a lot easier. Public transport is not currently available as the airport is not linked to local bus services.
