Tupiza is a small city in southern Bolivia, characterized by vast desert landscapes with a startling similarity to the American SouthWest. The town is full of wild west style legends, with claims that this was the final stretch where Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid left their mark. From the city, you can spend several days exploring through hiking, horseback riding, and 4 X 4 adventures. The natural landscapes include scenic red rock valleys and colorful canyons. Despite the remote location and the small town, the tourism infrastructure is quite strong with many lodging options and tour operators.
If possible, life in Tupiza is even slower than in the rest of Bolivia. Having this in mind, Tupiza is a great place to chill out for a few days and to live some "western-like" adventures. From Tupiza it is possible to access some beautiful "quebradas" (ravines) and beautiful hills packed with cactuses. A must see.
Charming town, famous for being where Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid ultimately met their end. It is a great option to add on to your Salar de Uyuni tour. Lots of nice hotels, and plenty of activities to enjoy the outdoors like mountain biking, horseback riding, and hiking. Weather is very nice. Lots of sunlight with warm days and cool evenings.
