This is probably the best all-around resort in the French Alps. A big claim, but Val d'Isere/Tignes has so much to offer. Epic touring runs, great bump runs, beautiful skiing on the glacier, and some of the best scenery around. And it's a lot cheaper than Chamonix.

In the French Alps this ski resort is full of charm. Expert skiers will love the black runs. Beginner skiers , like me will find a fair amount of runs that are manageable. The ski trails are under rated so if you aren't experienced skier beware. The accommodation options are varied but all nice. Great place for kids with ski schools galore. The ski season is pretty long here with great snow almost always guaranteed. The downside is that you are a four hour drive from the airport making a trip there quite a journey. (and if you are prone to car sickness be prepared for very twisty roads!). Like all resorts in this reason be prepared to spend alot on food and drink. But the quality of the food is top notch.

Chic and packed full of things to do for ski bums and bar bums alike. The skiing is second to none, especially for those willing to splash out on the full pass that allows you to connect up to Tignes. Make sure, after a hard day's skiing or boarding, that you pay a visit to the Folie Douce if you have this pass. Party in your ski boots on the mountain and, most probably, on the tables before a somewhat misguided ski down, or a funicular ride for the more battered/sensible of you. Back in Val D'Isere, grab a quick shower, scoff a Raclette and then head out to one of the many bars (ask a seasonaire for the best bar each night: they can be identified in this resort by their big hair and propensity to say 'yah') before stumbling to the legendary Dicks Tea Bar. Repeat.
