Where to Stay in Verona

While Verona may occupy a special place in the heart of romantics everywhere, the city has much more to offer than simply being the setting for Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet.

Located in northern Italy's Veneto region, Verona is now the fourth most visited city in Italy with a medieval old town built along the Adige River and a compact city center dotted with historic bell towers. As well as its stunning buildings, Verona city center is also home to a growing and buzzing dining scene, while designer stores have popped up alongside the more historic architectural gems.

Of course legions of tourists visit the city thanks to the Shakespearean tale and can be found in the Piazza delle Erbe as they head for Juliet's House in Via Capepello, which dates back to the 12th century. A bronze statue of Juliet can be found in the courtyard below a balcony that was added in the 20th century to maintain the romantic link between the city and the famous play.

While the center of Verona can be toured on foot, the city's network of urban buses can be useful especially if you need to connect between the railway station and the Piazza Brà. You can also rent a car in Verona if you're planning to travel further afield. And if you're thinking of exploring more of the country, read our guide to the top places to visit in Italy.
