Where to stay in Chicago
Chicago is one of the largest cities in the USA, sitting on the southwest shore of Lake Michigan and attracting in excess of 85 million visitors a year. With Michelin-class restaurants, over 200 theaters, city tours, spectator sports and world-class historic attractions and museums, there is something for everyone in the Windy City.
When it comes to booking a hotel, no matter your budget you’ll find something to match with popular areas to stay including downtown Chicago – also known as The Loop – an area known as the 'Magnificent Mile' and River North.
Getting between the areas is also easy thanks to Chicago’s reputation as a walkable city with a downtown grid that is simple to navigate. Meanwhile buses, trains, taxis, bicycle hire, water taxis and the high-speed commuter Metra rail system will let you see further afield although you could also rent a car in Chicago.
Chicago 'Magnificent Mile' Hotels
Known as the 'Magnificent Mile', the area of North Michigan Avenue from the Chicago River to Oak Street is popular with shoppers keen to enjoy the department stores and chic designer outlets during holiday seasons.
One of the most popular hotels in the heart of the 'Magnificent Mile', the Peninsula has premier business and shopping districts on the doorstep, boasts the 14,000sq ft Peninsula Spa and is also close to the city’s historic Water Tower, the second oldest water tower in the USA.
A mid-range option on Michigan Avenue in the heart of the 'Magnificent Mile', the Warwick Allerton offers beautifully-designed rooms with modern amenities and is close to public transport links and a wide variety of shopping and entertainment venues.
As a budget choice hotel, the Inn of Chicago offers the best of both worlds with a location just half a block from the 'Magnificent Mile' and close to the museums and architecture of The Loop. The hotel is also close to the baseball stadium at Wrigley Field and the John Hancock Building.
Chicago River North Hotels
The River North area of the city is west of the 'Magnificent Mile' and north of The Loop and an ideal place to stay for those looking to enjoy the attractions of Chicago’s bustling nightlife.
Located on the banks of the Chicago River, the four-star Westin is a modern hotel with a sauna, fitness center, sushi bar and business center.
A mid-price range hotel, the Best Western is close to many of the city’s attractions such as Navy Pier and Sears Tower and features well-appointed rooms with modern facilities including a heated indoor swimming pool and a gym.
At the lower end of the price scale, the Freehand offers innovative design, affordable rooms and a funky Chicago base in a restored Art Deco building set among the River North high rises with the city’s best art galleries, boutiques and restaurants on the doorstep.

I live in the twin cities so I'm a custom to the concrete jungle. I was so blown away with Chicago's architecture! Beautiful, bold and busy.
I love this city! It's so massive and has its pockets of different cultures. If you hit the main sites you're bound to have a good time since the city keeps everything so clean (in the touristy areas).
This is one of the most beautiful cities I’ve visited in the US. It’s clean, the architecture is amazing and it’s easy to get around. And let’s not forget their food especially the deep dish pizza and hot dogs
Chicago was absolutely amazing!! Very fun and fit, everything was clean and everyone was friendly! 10\10
