If you’re looking for a cheap staycation in the UAE this summer, it’s worth waiting until the peak season is over to find a real bargain. Here we’ve found some of the best deals available for a two-night weekend stay in mid August for two adults. The results may surprise you…
Where: Al Thanya Street, Dubai
Cost: From around AED624* for two nights
Why stay here: Boutique hotels in the UAE are few and far between but they can make a welcome break from the usual high-rises. The new Park Regis Boutique Hotel in Umm Suqeim is beautifully decorated with mix of modern and traditional styles with furnishings made predominantly of natural fabrics, wood and rattan. There are only 21 rooms which gives it a much more personal feel than most other Dubai hotels. The location is also fantastic with Jumeirah Public Beach just over the road, and Wild Wadi Waterpark, The Mall and Souk Madinat just a few blocks away. This part of Jumeirah has lots going on with loads of independent cafes, restaurants and coffee shops on almost every street. Dining options in the hotel are limited to the delicious 21 Grams which is open from 7am to 11.30pm and has indoor and outdoor areas overlooking Umm Suqeim Park.
Where: Jumeirah Beach Residence, Dubai Marina
Cost: From around AED931* for two nights
Why stay here: You are literally spoilt for choice when it comes to hotels in Dubai Marina, but finding a bargain can still be tricky. The Suha Hotel Apartments by MONDO is one of the most affordable options in the Marina but it still has a prime spot in Jumeirah Beach Residence. It is just one block from The Walk and the beach. Even the most basic rooms come with en suite bathrooms, an extra washroom, dining and lounge areas, and a kitchen. Eating out can get expensive so having the option to cook a light meal or breakfast in your hotel suite is an added bonus in our opinion.
Where: King Faisal Street, Ras Al Khaimah
Cost: From around AED646* for two nights
Why stay here: Take a drive to Ras Al Khaimah and you’ll get a lot of hotel for your cheap staycation budget. This large hotel occupies a huge stretch of sandy beach in the Al Nadiya neighborhood, a short drive from RAK’s Ice Land Water Park. It’s a four-star hotel with five choices of rooms ranging from a standard city view room to a deluxe suite. All come with free WiFi, coffee/tea facilities, televisions, air conditioning and bath tubs. You’re unlikely to want to leave the hotel (there’s not a huge amount around) but fortunately there’s a restaurant, pool and beach bar, sports bar, coffee shop and even a nightclub on site. It’s not the most glamorous hotel, but if you want a staycation that isn’t right on your doorstep, it’s a good choice.
Where: Al Wasl, Dubai Canal, Dubai
Cost: From around AED213* for two nights
Why stay here: It’s all about the location with this bargain hotel by the Dubai Canal. You’re a stone’s throw from the canal, Boxpark, City Walk, Safa Park, and Business Bay Metro station. There’s also a free shuttle to Jumeirah Beach, the Burj Khalifa and Dubai Mall. It’s a Holiday Inn Express so you’re not going to get five star luxury. However, compared to some of the other hotel prices in the Dubai Canal and Dubai Mall area, it’s a steal. All rooms come with a pillow menu, iron and board, heating and air-conditioning, hair dryers, and tea and coffee facilities.
Where: The Walk, Jumeirah Beach Residence, Dubai Marina
Cost: From around AED882* for two nights
Why stay here: This is another of the most affordable hotel options in Dubai Marina, situated at the end of the Abu Dhabi end of the marina. It is only around a five minutes’ walk to The Beach. You have a choice of six types of rooms all with free WiFi, coffee and tea facilities, televisions, electronic safe, and private bathrooms. There’s a rooftop pool with great views over the marina, a spa, gym and plenty of parking if you’re driving. For an affordable cheap staycation in the Marina, you can’t really beat it.
Where: Yas Leisure Drive, Yas Island, Abu Dhabi
Cost: From around AED876* for two nights
Why stay here: If you live in Abu Dhabi and don’t want to travel too far for an off-peak summer staycation, consider the short trip to Yas Island. You can get a hotel room for around AED200 a night. If you’re familiar with the Rotana brand you’ll know what to expect – good sized rooms, great selection of restaurants including a steak house and pool bar, kid’s pool, spa, gym, outdoor swimming pool and tennis courts. As well as the hotel facilities there’s a ton going on on Yas Island if you want a busy staycation. Shop at Yas Mall, escape the heat at Yas Waterworld or play a round of golf at Yas Links Golf Club.
Where: Qaryat Al Beri, Abu Dhabi
Cost: From around AED504* for two nights
Why stay here: Again, this is a good hotel if you want to feel like you’ve “gone away” on your cheap staycation! It’s in the Qaryat Al Beri area on the outskirts of Abu Dhabi City. It has a swimming pool, private beach area, children’s play area, gym and in-house restaurants. It’s not the most luxurious hotel but it’s good value for money and far enough away to feel like a real mini break.
Where: Al Barsha, Mall of the Emirates, Dubai
Cost: From around AED295* for two nights
Why stay here: Pure and simple: value for money and location. You’re right by Mall of the Emirates and Ski Dubai, and the Sharaf DG metro station which opens up the whole of the city for you (it’s only a few stops from the Dubai Marina). The rooms and facilities are very basic so you most likely won’t want to spend a lot of time in the hotel, but for the price it’s an excellent cheap staycation.
