Why you should go in March: Temperatures are comfortably high and crowd numbers are usually low

Cost from UAE to Australia: From around *Dh2,498 per person

What to do there

The weather in two of Australia’s most popular cities – Melbourne and Sydney – is in the mid-20s, making the country a perfect March vacation destination. Melbourne, especially, is great for families with plenty of markets, cafes, museums, aquariums, shops and parks dotted around every neighborhood. If you’re a fan of the outdoors, rent a car and some camping gear and head off on a road trip along the Great Ocean Road to the Grampians and pitch up. The calendar in the first month of Autumn in Sydney is a busy one. There’s the Art Month festival which includes exhibitions, talks, performances and open studios of some of the city’s best artists. There’s also the Sydney Royal Easter Show which is a great occasion for kids. Festivals aside, don’t miss visiting the Sydney Royal Opera House, Sydney Harbor Bridge, Taronga Zoo, and the beautiful Bondi Beach.

Where to stay

If you want great views and large rooms, book a stay at the Sydney Shangri-La Hotel in the lovely Rocks neighborhood, Sydney’s historic part of the city. All 565 rooms have stunning views of the city and harbor and all the amenities you could want. A room costs from around Dh1,000 per night. Opposite Melbourne’s Flagstaff Gardens is the four-star Oaks on William Hotel, which is in easy walking distance of other popular Melbourne attractions including the Queen Victoria Market and Melbourne Zoo. Rooms cost from around *Dh446 per night.

Rio de Janeiro

Why you should go in March: March is the month of the infamous Rio Carnival, one of the biggest parties in the world

Cost from UAE to Rio de Janeiro: From around *Dh4,011 per person

What to do there

If Rio de Janeiro wasn’t already on your travel bucket list, it should be! The city, which is already a lively one, has an even bigger party atmosphere throughout and in the build-up to the Rio Carnival held each year in February or March. Around 2 million take to the streets to watch the carnival parades of floats decorated by the city’s 200-odd samba schools. The floats are taken very seriously and there’s a long list of rules the schools must follow before and during their presentations; this party is serious stuff! There are smaller street parties all over the city but the largest takes place outside the Sambadrome. If it’s the dancing you’re into, head to the Cinelândia Square in Rio’s Centro for the city’s biggest street dance.

Where to stay

The Sheraton Grand Rio Hotel & Resort is a contemporary hotel on Rio’s Leblon beach. It has great facilities, restaurants, wonderful views of the ocean (not all rooms have this view so book wisely) and offers good value for money with rooms starting at around *Dh827 per night.
