Amman, Jordan

Bustling Amman is known for its citadel, Roman theater, museums and fine food. However, head south and you’ll reach two of the Middle East’s finest attractions. It is one of the most popular cheap destinations from Dubai. Visit the ancient city of Petra where you can climb and hike to historic tombs and monuments carved from the red rock. Further south is the spectacular desert scenery of Wadi Rum, where you can pretend that you are Matt Damon and relive his adventures in the movie, The Martian, which was filmed here.

Astana, Kazakhstan

Baku, Azerbaijan

Delhi, India

Best visited in summer months, Dushanbe marks the start of one of the greatest and most adventurous road trips in the world; the one week journey through the spectacular Pamir Mountains to Osh in Kyrgyzstan.

Isfahan, Iran

Approximately 1 hour, 50 minutes – approximately 3 weekly direct flights from Dubai

Isfahan allows you to witness architectural jewels of the Persian Empire. Buildings such as the mosques of Sheikh Lotfollah, Shah, and Jameh and the imposing Imam Square all inspire awe. Why not count the 33 arches of the Si-o-se Pol Bridge, or socialize under the Khaju Bridge.

Salalah, Oman

Less than a two hour flight will bring you to Oman’s second largest city, Salalah, that overlooks the wide, flat Arabian Sea.

The annual monsoon (June-September) is the best time to visit Salalah as the rains bring life to the surrounding desert and mountains such as the beautiful Wadi Derbat where you can admire the greenery and frolic beneath the waterfalls.

Largely deserted beaches tempt the visitor with long stretches of sand where one can sit and eat fresh bananas, coconuts, and papayas.

Tashkent, Uzbekistan

Approximately 3 hours, 15 minutes – approximately 3 weekly direct flights from Dubai

A recently opened direct route is that from Tashkent to Dubai. Use the metro system with its beautifully ornate stations to transport you around the city to such sites as Independence Square and Amir Temur Square.

The Mosques, such as the Teleshayakh and the Minor, sport the distinctive architecture and tiling found in parts of Central Asia. Once you have finished sightseeing, stop at the Chorsu Bazaar for some shopping and a meal.

Tbilisi, Georgia

Approximately 3 hours, 30 minutes – 1 direct flight daily

Surrounded by mountains and fronted by the River Vari, Tbilisi has one of Europe’s most beautiful settings. To reach a higher part of the city where you will be rewarded with gorgeous views of the entire city, you can take the funicular or the more energetic can walk instead.

Near to Tbilisi are the Caucasus Mountains which are well known for its ski and snow activities in winter. Autumn and spring are also lovely times to visit Tbilisi and the surrounding countryside. Yerevan, Armenia

Approximately 3 hours, 15 minutes – 3 direct flights weekly

At the edge of the former Soviet Empire lays Armenia, and a large number of buildings are styled after the institutional Soviet architecture of the 20th century.

If such buildings are not your scene, you can relax in the popular outdoor area of the Cascade Complex or visit Erebuni Fortress which provides a lovely view of the city. With a strong arts and cultural scene, Armenia has many concerts and performances to attend and enjoy.
