Cairo Airport

Cairo Airport

Cairo Airport, also known as Cairo International Airport, is situated around 15 km northeast of the center of Cairo. The airport is the busiest in Egypt serving up to 16 million passengers a year and the second busiest on the African continent. There are a wide range of services handled at the airport including direct flights from the UAE.

Terminals at Cairo Airport

Cairo Airport has three operational passenger terminals providing flights around the world. Terminal 2 recently underwent extensive renovation works which were completed in September 2016. The newest Terminal 3 opened in 2009 and is twice as large as Terminal 1 and 2 combined. It is currently the base of EgyptAir and boasts many of the airport’s finest amenities including the five-star Le Meridien hotel.

Whilst Terminal 3 and Terminal 2 are next to each other and linked by a bridge, accessing Terminal 1 requires a shuttle bus trip due to its distance from the other terminals. This shuttle bus is free and runs fairly frequently so the trip is a lot easier.

Facilities at Cairo Airport

Cairo Airport offers an expansive range of facilities and amenities for travelers, so you can look forward to a wide selection of options during your stay at the airport. Many dining choices can be found ranging from fast-food outlets to restaurants and cafes, while duty-free stores are available alongside a range of designer and retail shops. Additionally, you can pick up drinks and any travel necessities at some of the convenience stores and bookshops at the airport.

There are a number of separate lounge areas at the airport providing luxury and comfort with refreshments, relaxing seating and Wi-Fi access, while the VIP Lounge provides personalized service and privacy. Disabled passengers can contact their airline prior to arriving at the airport to make arrangements including help passing through passport control and wheelchair access.

Cairo Airport Travel Information

There are a number of transportation options when traveling to and from Cairo Airport. As well as public transport services offering a cheap mode of transport, private taxis, limousines and shuttle buses can be easily arranged. For those with personal vehicles, there are numerous car parks available on site providing both short and long term parking. Many car rental companies also operate at Cairo Airport including Avis, Europcar and Hertz.

The Cairo Airport Shuttle Bus is one of the most affordable and convenient ways to reach your destination. The bus is capable of taking passengers to many destinations including Giza and Downtown Cairo and can be boarded with or without pre-booking. The shuttle can also be booked privately by individuals or groups beforehand.

Taxis are another popular method of transportation. New white taxis and yellow city cabs have been fitted with meters for a fair price, whereas the old black and white taxis tend not to have meters. For a more personalized journey, private limousines are also available to hire, providing luxury transportation to your destination. These limousines range from regular vehicles to top-of-the-range models to travel around in style and comfort.
