Arriving In Asmara
Asmara International Airport is situated just outside Asmara and is the main airport in Eritrea handling a range of international flights including direct flights from the UAE. If you are looking to book flights from the UAE to Asmara you will be able to travel directly out of Dubai or Sharjah. If you are based in Dubai you can make the journey with flydubai and Eritrean Airlines, with all flights departing from Dubai International Airport. In addition to this, there is also the option to fly out of Sharjah with Air Arabia.
The airport itself is relatively small but offers all of the essential facilities and services you would need. There is a restaurant and bar on site where you can enjoy a drink or a meal before your flight, while there is also duty-free shopping available to pick up some discounted goods. Getting from the airport into the city is possible by public bus if you are looking to save money, but you may instead prefer a taxi if you are unfamiliar with local transport routes.

Most nationals including those from the UAE will need a valid visa in order to enter Eritrea, so make sure you complete an application with plenty of time to spare before your journey. In Asmara the weather is generally warm and dry for most of the year, with average highs of around 33 degrees from April until July. However, there is a small rainy season in the region in July and August. You will need to put your clocks back by just one hour in order to get on local time in Eritrea, while the currency you will need is the Eritrean nakfa.
