Once your flight has touched down you can use the local bus network to travel into Abu Dhabi if you don’t want to pay for a private taxi. Alternatively, several leading car rental agencies are available at the airport. While you wait for flights at the airport there are many restaurants and cafés to satisfy your appetite, or you can pass the time doing some duty-free shopping or exploring the many designer and retail stores. The airport also offers free Wi-Fi access for travelers so you can easily access the web.

Muscat International Airport is the primary airport serving Oman and is around 30 km from Muscat. The airport is the beneficiary of a new terminal complex which opened up in 2018 and will eventually be able to handle close to 50 million travelers each year. This passenger terminal handles all flights at the airport, while the old terminal is scheduled to undergo renovation work. If you don’t want to take a taxi to the airport there are public buses from the city center which can take you to the airport. The airport offers a good range of amenities and services so you won’t be short on things to do. There are several eateries and cafés for hungry travelers as well as duty-free shopping and a few other travel stores. The airport also provides travelers with free Wi-Fi access and is home to a few airport lounges.
What to Expect in Abu Dhabi
There are a wide variety of hotels in Abu Dhabi so you're sure to find something that suits your needs. The weather is hot across the year with average highs exceeding 40 degrees in summer. Omani nationals traveling to the UAE will be able to enter without needing a visa, but will need to present a valid national ID card. Don’t worry about changing your clocks as there is no time difference between the UAE and Oman, while the currency used in the country is the United Arab Emirates dirham. Abu Dhabi is the largest emirate within the UAE and an ideal country to explore by vehicle, with Dubai and Sharjah just a short drive away.
