Flying to Agatti Island
Agatti Island Airport is comprised of a small passenger terminal and was first operational in 1988, although a new terminal building has since been constructed. The airport has the capacity for around 150 passengers and offers a small range of facilities and amenities. There is a café and snack bar inside the terminal serving up refreshments for passengers, although other than this you will find very little else. The airport currently handles flights with Alliance Air to and from three Indian destinations – Bengaluru, Chennai and Kochi. This makes it relatively straightforward for UAE-based travelers to make the journey with just a single transfer. You can check out our guide to finding flights to India.
Arriving on Agatti Island
When your flight has touched down at the airport, you can flag down one of the auto-rickshaws just outside of the terminal to reach your destination. There is also a ferry service available that can take you to the nearby Bangaram Island directly from the airport.
Be aware that there are rules and regulations applying to Agatti Island which differ from other areas of India. You will need to obtain an Entry Permit in order to enter the island which can only be done after confirming a place to stay. After this, your hotel or resort will usually conduct the rest of the paperwork to get your permit for you. As a UAE national traveling to India, you will also need a visa to enter the country. You can go online and apply for an e-visa before your journey which allows stays of up to 60 days.
