Reasons To Visit Yogyakarta
Yogyakarta is one of the most popular destinations in Indonesia known for its many stunning historic monuments, temple complexes and ruins, while there are also several top-quality museums available which you must add to your itinerary like the Museum Affandi art museum and the Museum Sonobudoyo with its many ancient artefacts. You must visit at least one ancient temple, known locally as Candi, during your stay – both Candi Sambisari and Candi Kalasan are UNESCO world heritage sites but there are plenty more in the region worth seeing. Yogyakarta is also an excellent place for outdoor lovers as there are many opportunities to explore the wilderness, while those looking for a thrilling experience can enjoy river rafting down the Elo River or Progo River.
Arriving In Yogyakarta
Yogyakarta Airport, also known as Adisutjipto International Airport, is located just outside of the city of Yogyakarta and handles a range of domestic flights alongside a few international routes in the region. If you are looking to catch flights from the UAE to Yogyakarta you will not be able to catch any direct flights, but there are a couple of flight options available which would involve only one transfer.
Yogyakarta Airport is comprised of two passenger terminals, with separate terminals for domestic and international flights. Inside the airport itself you’ll find all of the basic things you would need including a couple of restaurants and travel shops to get everything for your journey. When you have arrived at the airport there is a local bus available for those on a budget, although metered taxis are available just outside of either terminal. Alternatively, you could consider renting a car in Yogyakarta.
