Arriving In Kota Bharu
Sultan Ismail Petra Airport is the main airport serving Kota Bharu situated just 10 km from the center of the city. The airport exclusively handles domestic flights from around Malaysia, so you won’t be able to make any international journeys to or from this airport. Travelers looking to fly from the UAE to Kota Bharu will not be able to make the trip directly, but the airport has regular connections from Kuala Lumpur International Airport which handles direct flights from the UAE.

At Sultan Ismail Petra Airport you won’t find too much in terms of amenities and facilities, but there are a couple of cafés and shops on site so all of your basic needs are catered for. Getting from the airport into the city is possible by local bus for those on a budget, with the journey taking around 20 minutes. However, it is just as easy to get in a taxi or arrange for a private transfer if you would rather reach your destination directly.
