Flying to Kulu

Kulu Airport, also named Kullu-Manali Airport, is situated around 10 km from the town of Kulu and 50 km from nearby Manali. The airport is comprised of a single passenger terminal which opened in 2008 and currently handles just a small range of domestic flights with Alliance Air. The airport terminal is relatively small and offers little by way of facilities and services. Other than a small snack bar and café serving up refreshments, you’ll find little else at the airport so bring all of the essentials you need with you. The airport is noted for its difficult landing due to its unique location in the middle of the valley, but this also makes for an incredibly beautiful experience.

Arriving in Kulu

When you have landed at the airport you can find taxis and buses available just outside of the terminal building. The local bus network can be accessed from the airport which opens up the possibility of traveling further afield. Buses are a cheap way to get around that can often be crowded and hot, so you may prefer the comfort of a taxi instead.

Before flying to India, UAE nationals will be able to get an e-visa which permits stays of up to 60 days. The weather in Kulu doesn’t get as hot as the UAE in the summer but still sees warm temperatures and plenty of sunshine with average highs of around 27 degrees in June. Be aware that its high elevation can lead to bitterly cold winters, so you will need proper winter clothing with you if you visit anytime from October to March. The local cost of living in Kulu is only a fraction of that in the UAE so you won’t need a huge budget to get by.
