Arriving In Urumqi

Urumqi Airport is located around 15 km from the center of Urumqi and is one of the busiest airports in China handling a wide range of domestic and regional flights as well as a few longer routes. If you are looking to book flights from the UAE to Urumqi it is possible to make the journey directly out of Dubai or Sharjah. If you are based in Dubai you can catch flights with China Southern Airlines out of Dubai International Airport, while those in Sharjah can fly with Air Arabia (Air Arabia baggage allowance explained).

At Urumqi Airport there are two passenger terminals, with the new Terminal 3 handling all China Southern Airlines flights. Inside the airport you will find a broad range of amenities and facilities to meet your needs. There are plenty of fast food outlets and cafés around the airport, where you can also do some duty-free shopping during your stay. There are a few ways that you can travel into the city once you have landed at the airport including by public transport. There are public buses available for those on a budget as well as a special airport bus, or you may prefer the convenience of hopping in a metered taxi just outside of either terminal.

As a UAE national traveling to China you will have to make a visa application in advance of your journey, so make sure you leave plenty of time to get this done. The weather in Urumqi varies drastically depending on the time of year, with extremely cold temperatures during the winter and average highs of around 30 degrees between July and August. Urumqi is four hours ahead of the UAE so don’t forget to put your clocks forward to get on local time when you land.
