Airports with flights from the UK to the UAE
If you are looking to fly from the UK to the UAE there are many options available to you as flights depart from multiple cities across the country. Along with flights out of the capital London, it is possible to fly from Manchester, Edinburgh, Newcastle, Glasgow and Birmingham.
From the UK you will be able to catch flights directly to both Abu Dhabi and Dubai, two of the world’s most popular travel destinations. There are several airlines providing flights to the UAE from the UK, so you have plenty of choices available.
Airports in the UK
London Heathrow Airport is the main airport in London and also Europe’s busiest airport made up of four passenger terminals. From Heathrow Airport you will be able to catch flights all across the globe including direct flights to Dubai and Abu Dhabi. Getting to the airport from central London is incredibly easy on the Heathrow Express which takes only 15 minutes from Paddington station, although there are also plenty of alternatives available including on the London Underground (Piccadilly Line).
London Gatwick Airport is London’s second airport and also the UK’s second busiest situated roughly 15 km from central London. The airport is comprised of two passenger terminals and mainly offers flights around Europe, although there are plenty of long-haul flights available including direct flights to Dubai with Emirates. The quickest way to get to the airport from London is to hop on the Gatwick Express train which takes around 30 minutes but there are other options available.
Manchester Airport is the UK’s third busiest airport comprised of three passenger terminals. From Manchester Airport you will be able to catch direct flights to both Abu Dhabi and Dubai. The most direct way to reach the airport from central Manchester is on the Metrolink tram network as the airport has its own tram station, although you can also make the trip by bus.
Glasgow International Airport is the main airport in Glasgow located around 10 km from the city center. From Glasgow you will be able to catch direct flights to Dubai with Emirates. If you are looking to use public transport to reach the airport you can catch the Glasgow Shuttle bus which departs from the city center.
Edinburgh Airport is Edinburgh’s main airport located less than 10 km from the city. From Edinburgh you can travel directly to Abu Dhabi with Etihad Airways. There are plenty of public transport services available from Edinburgh to the airport, so you can easily make the trip without needing your own vehicle or a taxi.
Birmingham Airport is situated roughly 10 km outside of Birmingham and is made up of two passenger terminals. You will be able to fly directly to Dubai International Airport from Birmingham with Emirates. Getting from Birmingham to the airport is possible by public transport with bus and rail services available.
Airlines offering direct flights from the UK
There are a number of airlines providing direct flights from the UK to the UAE. As well as the two biggest airlines in the UAE, Etihad Airways and Emirates, you can fly with British Airways, Qantas, Virgin Atlantic and Royal Brunei Airlines.
Etihad Airways is the flag carrier of Abu Dhabi with its main hub at Abu Dhabi International Airport. The airline offers flights to Abu Dhabi from London Heathrow Airport, Manchester and Edinburgh. You can also travel with British Airways from London Heathrow Airport directly to Abu Dhabi.
Emirates is the flag carrier of Dubai offering flights from several UK airports directly to Dubai. With Emirates you will be able to fly to Dubai International Airport from London Heathrow Airport, London Gatwick Airport, Manchester, Newcastle, Glasgow and Birmingham.
Useful travel information for the UAE
Plenty of nationals including those from EU nations (excluding the UK and Ireland) will be able to enter the UAE without needing a visa. For UK nationals, you will be able to obtain a visa upon arrival which permits stays of up to 30 days. It is also relatively straightforward to arrange an extension while you are in the UAE for a fee.
No matter what time of year you visit the UAE the weather is going to be hot, although temperatures are a lot cooler during the winter period from December to February which sees average highs of around 25 degrees. However, if you are coming to the UAE during the summer you can expect extremely hot temperatures with average highs exceeding 40 degrees. The UAE is four hours ahead of the UK, while the currency you will need in the country is the United Arab Emirates dirham.
