Ahwaz, also commonly known as Ahvaz, is the capital of the province of Khuzestan in southwest Iran best known for its association to the oil industry, but still retains a lot of its ancient charm which makes it a rewarding city to explore. One of the most fascinating areas in the city is around Taleqani Street which is known for its bustling bazaars, while the promenade walk along the river is a popular place for locals and travelers alike with its scenic beauty and relaxing atmosphere. The most famous symbol in the city is the White Bridge which extends over the Karoun River, while the nearby Riverside Park is an excellent place to enjoy a family day out in the park.

Arriving In Ahwaz

Ahwaz International Airport is located around 10 km away from central Ahwaz and handles a wide range of domestic and regional flights, including direct flights to and from the UAE. Travelers looking to book flights from the UAE to Ahwaz will be able to make the journey directly out of Dubai. Currently the three airlines operating flights on this route are flydubai (Flydubai baggage allowance and fares explained), Karun Airlines and Iran Air Tours, with all flights departing from Dubai International Airport.

Ahwaz International Airport has a terminal dedicated to international flights as well as an additional domestic terminal. The airport is relatively small but still offers everything you would need for a pleasant stay. Along with a few different shops where you can find all your travel basics, there are places to eat and drink including 24-hour options. Once your flight has arrived at the airport, there is an airport bus available which can take you into the city center if you would rather not pay for a private taxi.

As a UAE national traveling to Iran, you will be able to get a visa upon arrival at select airports which is valid for a period of up to 30 days. In Ahwaz the weather gets extremely hot over the summer on a similar level to the UAE with average highs of around 45 degrees from June until August, although temperatures soon drop to surprisingly cool levels with the onset of winter.
