Pathankot Airport is located just 3 km from Pathankot and is set within a single passenger terminal. The airport currently handles just a single flight service from Delhi with Alliance Air. Although this means UAE-based travelers won’t be able to fly directly to Pathankot, you will conveniently be able to transfer at Delhi before continuing onward to Pathankot. The airport was previously disused but recently restarted commercial flights in 2018. The airport was officially inaugurated in 2006 and may begin opening up new flight routes in the future. The terminal itself is small and offers very little by way of facilities and services, so you are advised to bring all of the essentials you need with you.

When your flight has touched down in Pathankot, the most popular way to reach your destination is to hop in a taxi just outside the terminal building. Public transport is lacking at the airport so you won’t be able to catch any buses. However, you can access the local railway network by taxi if you plan on traveling across the region.

Perhaps the most famous historical attraction in the area is the beautiful Pracheen Shiv Mandir, while Shahpurkandi Fort is also well worth the visit. From Pathankot, travelers are ideally situated to roam the Chamba and Kangra Valley nature areas which are popular with trekking and camping enthusiasts.

The climate in Pathankot gets very hot during the summer with average highs of up to 39 degrees in June, although winter temperatures do get cold so you will need some thick clothing with you. There is a brief rainy season in the region which begins in July and finishes towards the end of August, so it may be best to avoid visiting during this period. UAE nationals traveling to India can apply for an e-visa online which permits stays of up to 60 days and makes for a much more convenient arrival. The local cost of living around Pathankot is only a fraction of that of the UAE, so you can easily get by on a small budget.
