Khartoum is the capital of Sudan and home to many of the country’s finest cultural attractions and architectural gems. There are many beautiful landmarks located in the city that make for a rewarding sightseeing trip, many of which are located on Nile Street with its colonial buildings and the Presidential Palace. Khartoum is also home to one of Africa’s largest markets, Souq Omdurman, which offers almost everything imaginable such as local handicrafts, arts and souvenirs to take home. Music is an important part of Sudanese culture and this is evident in the many concerts and festivals such as the Khartoum International Festival.

The Khartoum weather is amongst the hottest on the planet and similar to the UAE weather with scorching hot summers. Temperatures can cool down a little bit over the winter between December and February, making it the most popular season for visitors to the country. Those who can’t handle the heat should avoid visiting Khartoum between April and October. Khartoum International Airport is the main airport in Khartoum, situated 11km from the city. There are direct flights from the UAE to Khartoum operated by a number of carriers. There are flights from Dubai International Airport via Emirates and flydubai, while Etihad Airways and Sudan Airways operate flights to Khartoum from Abu Dhabi International Airport. Air Arabia offer flights from Sharjah Airport to Khartoum. The airport is relatively close to the city center, so the journey into Khartoum is only a brief one.

It can be difficult to get a visa to enter Sudan for most nationalities, but thankfully UAE nationals are able to acquire a visa upon arriving in the country. The currency utilized in Sudan is the Sudanese Pound, while the country is only 1 hour behind the UAE. Getting around Khartoum is probably best achieved by taxi as you can take a direct route to your destination without getting lost, although public minibuses are another option for seasoned travelers.
