The province of Labuan is comprised of one main island and six smaller islands just off the coast of East Malaysia. Celebrated by the name of the “Pearl of Borneo”, Labuan is a popular tourist destination offering a wide range of things to see and do. As well as its many beautiful natural sights and stunning beaches, the region is home to a number of significant historical sites including World War II ruins and a few shipwrecks which make for a fascinating scuba diving experience. If you did fancy a more of a laid-back experience you will find plenty of beaches around the islands as well as numerous world-class resorts and hotels, while Labuan also offers plenty in terms of nightlife with its many vibrant bars and nightclubs.
Arriving In Labuan
Labuan Airport is situated just 2.5 km from Labuan Town and offers only a small number of domestic flights around Malaysia. If you are looking to travel from the UAE to Labuan you will not be able to make the journey directly. However, the airport has direct connections from Kuala Lumpur International Airport, so travelers in the UAE can make the trip with only a single stopover.

At Labuan Airport you’ll find only a basic range of amenities and facilities, so bring any must-have items you need with you. Once you have arrived at the airport, the most convenient way to get to your destination is to hop in a taxi or arrange for a private transfer. However, you will find that many hotels and resorts in the region provide their own shuttle services, so it may be wise to check with your hotel before traveling. Be advised that it rains very frequently in the region for the majority of the year from April until December, with a brief period of respite from January until March. Temperatures in Labuan stay relatively consistent over the course of the year with average highs from 30 to 32 degrees, so you can expect it to be warm no matter what time of year you visit. You can expect prices in Labuan to be cheaper compared to the UAE for most things such as eating out and travel, while the currency you will need in Malaysia is the Malaysian ringgit.
