Located on the island of New Guinea in Indonesia, Jayapura is an interesting city offering a range of historical and cultural attractions alongside many natural opportunities with its beaches and beautiful wilderness. There are a variety of World War II attractions in and around the area such as the General Macarthur Memorial and the artillery positions on Hamadi Beach, so sightseers will have plenty to put on their itinerary. One of the most popular natural attractions in the area is Lake Sentani, a scenic lake encircled by mountains and home to a variety of restaurants, spas and hotels. Around the lake there is also a vibrant festival held each June where you can expect local dances and traditions as well as delicious culinary treats.

Arriving In Jayapura

Sentani International Airport is located around 25 km away from the center of Jayapura and primarily handles domestic flights from around Indonesia. If you are looking to travel from the UAE to Jayapura you won’t find any direct flights available. However, it is possible to make the journey with only a single stopover as the airport has connections around Indonesia.

At Sentani International Airport you will find all of the essential amenities and facilities you would expect, although the options are not as exhaustive as other major airports. Alongside, a couple of cafés and eateries where you can enjoy a bite to eat, there are a few convenience shops on site where you can pick up any last-minute travel basics. Once your flight has arrived at the airport, getting into the center of Jayapura is easiest by taxi, but there are shared minibus services available for those on a tight budget.
