In Erbil there are many opportunities to shop with its modern shopping centers alongside ancient marketplaces where you can pick up some memorable keepsakes of your journey.

Arriving In Erbil

Erbil International Airport is a new and modern airport which opened in 2010 and is located less than 10 km from central Erbil. When you have arrived at the airport, the most convenient way to get into the city is by taxi and the trip is only a brief one. During your time at the airport you can find all of the basic amenities you would need including a few shops and places to eat.

If you are traveling from the UAE to Erbil it is possible to fly out of Dubai from 25 March 2018 onwards, with all other flights from the UAE to Erbil currently suspended. Travelers based in Dubai can catch flights to Erbil with flydubai from 25 March 2018 onwards. Previously it was also possible to fly with Iraqi Airways from Dubai and from Sharjah International Airport with Air Arabia, but these flights have been suspended as of now.

Although all visitors to Iraq will require a visa to travel to Iraq, some travelers arriving at Erbil International Airport including EU and UAE nationals are able to enter without requiring a visa for up to 30 days. In Erbil the weather can get very hot over the summer with highs of up to 42 degrees, although over the winter it can get surprisingly cold so you may want to pack a jacket. Although Erbil does have a network of public buses, it may be best to rely on taxis to get around if you are unfamiliar with local routes.
