Ercan International Airport is the main international gateway into Northern Cyprus located close to the village of Tymbou and the Cypriot capital of Nicosia. When arriving at the airport there are many opportunities open to you whether it’s journeying up to the northern coast of Northern Cyprus or crossing the border into Cyprus. Along the northern coast you can find the interesting city of Kyrenia, an ancient port town that offers some of the most charming works of architecture in the country. Within Nicosia you’ll find everything you would expect of a modern city with its excellent shopping centers and restaurants, while there are also many fascinating museums well worth exploring like the Byzantine Museum.
Arriving In Ercan
Ercan International Airport is the main airport serving the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus situated around 10 km from Nicosia, the capital of Cyprus. If you are looking to book flights from the UAE to Ercan you will not be able to make the journey nonstop as there are no direct flights available, but the airport does have a few connections which enables UAE-based travelers to fly to Ercan with only a single flight transfer. Alternatively, car rental in Ercan is an option.
When your flight has arrived at the airport you can find public buses available to get around if you are on a tight budget, although you may prefer to hop in a metered taxi or arrange for private transport instead. In the region you can expect hot weather over the summer with average highs in the high 30s between June and August, while during the winter temperatures still stay relatively mild. In Northern Cyprus the currency you will need to make purchases is the Turkish lira, while the country is two hours behind the UAE so don’t forget to wind back your clocks.
