Flying to Rupsi

Rupsi Airport, also known as Rupshir Airport, has its origins in World War II and has been used for both military and commercial purposes over the decades. The airport is not currently in use for commercial operations, although plans are under way to construct a new terminal building and open up commercial flights in the future. The airport will in the future be a shared airport handling both military and civilian flights. Rupsi Airport is likely to be an exclusively domestic airport which means that only flights from other destinations in India will be handled here. This means that UAE-based travelers will not be able to fly directly from the UAE to Rupsi Airport any time soon.

Arriving in Rupsi

The majority of airports in India are served by local taxis, so it is highly likely that once the new airport is operational there will be taxi services available. There are no plans as of yet to connect the new airport terminal to the local public transport network, so you will be best off hopping in a taxi or prearranging a transfer before catching your flight.

Reasons to Visit Rupsi

Rupsi Airport serves the nearby town of Dhubri which is around 15 km away, and is also an entry point for those looking to explore the state of Assam. Dhubri itself is known locally as the “Land of Rivers” as it is covered by rivers on three sides. It is also the spot of a large gathering each December to commemorate one of the Ten Sikh Gurus. There are plenty of interesting attractions in and around the town such as the Rangamati Mosque (also known as the Panbari Mosque) and the pilgrimage site of Mahamaya Dham. You can also venture out into the unspoiled wilderness of the Chakrashila Wildlife Sanctuary which is home to all manner of animals like leopards, cobras and many exotic bird species.
