What to see and do in Beirut
Beautiful Beirut has become the Lebanese cultural capital of cool. Cosmopolitan and exciting Beirut has a hugely thriving arts scene with fashion, photography, street art, music, dance, theater, literature and more showcased in events and festivals throughout the year. As well as all this contemporary culture and some of the friendliest people you could ever wish to meet, Beirut is a staggering open air museum of archaeology and architecture from colonial relics to ancient mosques with their delicate minarets. Of course, the city’s history remains visible in downtown buildings still peppered with bullet holes but Beirut has bounced back with gusto. Perched on the Mediterranean, Beirut has Mount Lebanon as its backdrop meaning locals can ski and lie on the beach on the same day. The fabulous winding narrow streets hide hips bars and cafes, nightclubs, fashion boutiques and jolly street vendors. Views clash here as much as culture, religion and architecture but it makes Beirut one wonderfully enigmatic, edgy and dynamic cities in the world.
