The culturally diverse city of Lucknow is famous for its many festivals over the course of the year when the city comes alive with music and dancing. There are many historic sites located around Lucknow such as the huge Bara Imambara tomb complex which is over 200 years old or the impressive Chhota Imambara mausoleum. Be sure to sample some of the local cuisine, known locally as the “Nawabi” style, which you can find at numerous street food stalls, but there are also plenty of world-class dining establishments available. There are also plenty of opportunities to go shopping in Lucknow with both ancient markets like the Aminabad Market alongside modern shopping malls so you can find anything imaginable.
Arriving in Lucknow
Chaudhary Charan Singh International Airport is Lucknow’s main airport consisting of two passenger terminals, while the airport also plans to add a third terminal in the future. If you are on an international flight from the UAE you will be based at Terminal 1, the airport’s main international terminal. The airport itself offers a decent range of amenities including duty free shopping and a couple of dining and drinking spots, while you can also find rest zones to catch up on some sleep or connect to the free Wi-Fi network during your stay.

UAE nationals are able to apply online for an e-Visa before traveling to India which is valid for up to 60 days. Although not quite as hot as you are used to in the UAE, the weather in Lucknow gets considerably hot with highs of around 40 degrees between April and June. Travelers should also be advised that the region experiences a rainy season in July and August so be prepared for plenty of rain during this period. There is a network of public buses serving the city of Lucknow as well as plenty of taxis and rickshaws so you can easily get around without a vehicle.
