Reasons To Visit Chandigarh
Chandigarh is located in the north of India with the distinction of being the country's first planned city. The city is very modern by Indian standards with little in terms of heritage sites, but it does boast a vibrant cultural scene and many beautiful works of modern architecture well worth visiting. Some of the most memorable landmarks in the city include The Capitol building and the stunning Pinjore Gardens, also called Yadavindra Gardens, just outside of Chandigarh. The city is also known for its high standard of living with the highest income per capita in the entire country, so you can expect to find many luxuries like high-end shopping centers and fine restaurants.
Arriving In Chandigarh
Chandigarh International Airport is located around 15 km from the center of Chandigarh and primarily handles domestic flights from around India, although there are some international flights available including direct flights from the UAE. The airport recently opened up a brand-new terminal in 2015, while its previous terminal is now dedicated to VIP flights. If you are looking to book flights from the UAE to Chandigarh, it is possible to make the trip directly out of Dubai or Sharjah. Travelers based in Dubai can fly to Chandigarh with IndiGo from Dubai International Airport, while those in Sharjah will be able to make the journey with Air India Express (Air India Express baggage allowance and charges explained).
Chandigarh International Airport is comprised of one main terminal as well as a VIP terminal. The airport offers only the basics in facilities and services, so bring any essential items you need with you. However, there is a canteen area where you can enjoy a drink or a snack as well as a restaurant and bar. In addition to this, the airport offers duty-free shopping so you can pick up some bargains before your flight. Once your flight has arrived at the airport, you can find local buses to make your way around on a budget if you would rather not pay for a taxi. Alternatively, you could consider renting a car in Chandigarh.
