Why You Should Visit Santorini
The island of Santorini is a part of the Cyclades group towards the south of Greece. The island itself is a volcano and is one of the most picturesque and popular travel destinations in Europe. Everything you could possibly imagine is contained around the island whether it’s millennia-old historic sites, stunning sandy beaches or vibrant bars and clubs. Active travelers will find many hiking and walking trails across the island, while there are more high-octane pursuits to be had including scuba diving and horse-riding. You have a huge array of choices when it comes to beaches such as the isolated Amoudi beach, the popular Red Beach and the quiet Agios Georgios. Don’t forget to sample one of the local gyro meals or enjoy a tour of a beautiful winery. Santorini features in our list of the 10 best places to visit in Greece.
Arriving in Santorini (Thira)
Santorini International Airport is comprised of just the one passenger terminal and is fairly small but offers everything you would need for an enjoyable stay. Transport links from the airport are fairly good with taxis available outside the terminal as well as local bus services. Alternatively, a few international car rental companies can be found on site if you wish to explore Santorini with your own car. There aren’t currently any direct flights available from the UAE to Santorini, but it will be easy to catch a connecting flight from Athens.
The airport is relatively small so don’t expect a huge variety of options. However, you can do some duty-free shopping during your stay and there are also a couple of bars and cafés for any refreshments you might need. Other than this there is very little else of note at the airport, so be sure to bring all of the essentials you need with you. The airport is a lot busier during the peak season so you might find some of the shops and eateries to be closed during the off-season.
