The primary airport in Amman is Queen Alia International Airport, situated around 30km from the center of Amman. Three airlines provide direct flights from Dubai to Amman - Emirates, flydubai and Royal Jordanian Airlines. The city is also served by the smaller Amman Civil Airport which primarily operates charter and VIP flights. All of the direct flights to Amman from Dubai are from Dubai International Airport, the world’s busiest international airport. Other airlines including Etihad Airways are able to provide cheap flights from Dubai to Amman but the flight requires a stopover.
Terminal Information
Queen Alia International Airport has a single passenger terminal capable of handling up to 7 million passengers each year. This terminal complex is relatively new having been opened in 2013 and replaced Queen Alia International Airport’s previous two terminals. At the airport there is a wide range of facilities and amenities available to passengers including duty free shopping and a varied selection of places to eat. Getting to and from central Amman is convenient as the airport operates a shuttle bus 24 hours a day, while taxis are also readily available.
Dubai International Airport is a world-class airport offering a wide array of amenities for travelers. Alongside the numerous designer stores and duty free shops, passengers can choose between a large selection of cafés, restaurants and fast food outlets. The airport is made up of three terminals which each offer many amenities. Terminal 3 is dedicated to all Emirates flights, while Terminals 1 and 2 are for all other airlines. Those flying with flydubai will depart from Terminal 2 and those with Royal Jordanian Airlines will fly out of Terminal 1. All of the terminals are interconnected by the Dubai Metro network, while Terminals 1 and 3 are also linked by a free shuttle bus.
What to Expect in Amman
Some nationals including those from UAE, Bahrain and Qatar are able to enter Jordan on a visa-free basis. Most other nationals will be required to obtain a visa upon arrival to the country. The weather in Amman remains pleasantly warm for most of the year, although it can become rather cold during the winter between December and February when it also rains more frequently.
