TAP, also known as TAP Portugal, is the flag carrier of Portugal and a member of the Star Alliance. With their main hub at Lisbon Airport and a secondary hub in Porto, TAP offer around 2,500 flights a week to over 75 destinations across the globe. The origins of the airline stretch back to 1945 with the foundation of Portuguese Air Transportation before growing into one of Europe’s most prominent airlines. TAP were afforded the honor of being named the World’s Best Airline by Conde Nast Travel magazine and have won numerous awards over the years. How to Check In

There are numerous ways for passengers flying with TAP to check-in at your own convenience. The online check-in service is available from 72 hours up to 90 minutes before scheduled flight departure times, although flights to and from the United States open 24 hours before flights. The airline also offer mobile check-ins from select airports in Europe and South America as well as self-service check-in kiosks at certain airports. Alternatively, passengers can check-in the old fashioned way at a TAP check-in counter at your chosen airport.

Baggage Allowances and Fees

Travelers on TAP flights are entitled to check-in baggage as part of the fare, although your allowance will depend on your cabin class and destinations. On most flights, passengers in Economy Class can bring 23kg of checked baggage, while Business Class flyers are entitled to bring 32kg. The airline also allow passengers to bring hand baggage on board free of charge. Economy passengers are allowed to bring one item no heavier than 8kg, while Business Class passengers are allowed two items no heavier than 16kg together. Be sure to check with the airline for accurate information regarding your baggage allowance on your flight.


As well as a standard Economy Class, those wishing to travel in style can upgrade to the luxurious Business Class. For longer flights, those flying in Economy Class are able to enjoy standard legroom with a seat pitch of 32-34 inches, while Business Class flyers are afforded a generous seat pitch of 54-60 inches depending on your flight. On shorter flights Economy flyers will have a seat pitch of 30 inches, while in Business Class it is slightly more spacious at 32-34 inches. On board flights passengers in all cabin classes can enjoy meals and refreshments as part of the ticket price.
