Flying to Khajuraho
Khajuraho Airport is situated less than 5 km from Khajuraho and first opened up in 1978, although a new terminal was constructed and inaugurated in 2016. The airport currently handles just a small selection of domestic flights with Air India, so you won’t be able to fly to Khajuraho from the UAE directly. The airport itself is fairly small and offers only a limited selection of amenities and facilities. However, you will still find a snack at a café area serving up refreshments as well as a couple of souvenir and travel shops.
Arriving in Khajuraho
Upon arriving in Khajuraho you’ll be able to find taxis readily available outside of the terminal building, or you can visit a counter inside the terminal to pay for your journey before setting off. As there are many hotels and resorts in the region, it is also worth getting in contact with them as they will often provide their own transfer services. There are no public transport links at the airport, but you can connect to the local bus and train networks in the town of Khajuraho which is 5 km away.

The town is Khajuraho is world-famous for its stunning range of Jain and Hindu Temples which has led to the entire site’s designation as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. These temples are one of the most fascinating attractions in the entire country and showcase a rich range of architectural etchings, ancient depictions and sculptures. The groups of temples are split into three separate areas – the western, eastern and southern temples. Along with seeing these ancient wonders, there are other attractions on around the area including festivals, light shows and even yoga classes to enjoy.
Khajuraho Travel Information

In Khajuraho the weather gets extremely hot during the summer with average highs reaching up to 42 degrees in May, while the rainy season starts in July and finishes towards the end of August. The ideal time to visit the region is over the winter from November to February when temperatures are much cooler. Be advised that the local time zone is 1 hour and 30 minutes and the currency used in the country is the Indian rupee.
