Fua’amotu International Airport is the main international airport serving Tonga located around 35 km from the capital Nuku’alofa. If you are looking to travel from the UAE to Tonga, there are no airlines currently providing direct flights from anywhere in the UAE. However, Fua’amotu International Airport has regular flights from Auckland International Airport and Sydney Airport which would allow UAE-based travelers to get to Tonga with only a single transfer.
At Fua’amotu International Airport you will find only the bare minimum when it comes to facilities and amenities, so bring everything essential you need with you in order to avoid disappointment. There are plenty of taxis available to take you where you need to go just outside of the airport, although you may also want to check with your hotel as many will provide their own private shuttle buses for guests.

UAE nationals flying to Tonga will have to apply for a visa before the journey in order to enter the country. The hottest time of year in Tonga is between December and March which sees average highs of around 28 degrees, although temperatures only cool down slightly for the rest of the year. In Tonga the currency you will need is the Tongan pa’anga, while the country is nine hours ahead of the UAE. In general you can expect prices to be a lot less expensive in the country compared to the UAE, so you won’t need to spend too much to have a good time and get around.
