Airport Information - Arriving
Sharjah International Airport is a single terminal airport offering all of the amenities and facilities you would need for a pleasant stay. When you have arrived at the airport there are airport buses that can take you into the center of Sharjah, while those journeying to Dubai can also reach the city by bus. Alternatively, taxis can be found right outside the terminal so you can reach your destination directly, while many visitors to the UAE rent a car. Inside the airport there are many eating and drinking choices available around the airport’s food court section, while you can also find duty free shopping and plenty of other stores to browse through.
Airport Information - Departing
Bandaranaike International Airport is Colombo’s main airport located 35km from the city center. If you don’t want to drive or take a taxi then you can find public buses that will take you from the city to the airport. While you wait for your flight there are plenty of amenities and facilities to enjoy including duty free shopping, gift shops and a wide range of places to eat and drink. Currently comprised of two passenger terminals which a third terminal planned to open in 2020, all international flights are handled at Terminal 1. If you want somewhere more exclusive to wait for your flight then you may consider staying at one of the airport lounges available such as the Silk Route Lounge or Executive Lounge which allows all passengers entry for a fee.
What to Expect in Sharjah
Sri Lankan nationals will first need to acquire a visa in order to enter the UAE. In Sharjah you can expect the weather to be hot for most of the year before cooling down slightly over the winter between November and March. Prices in the city will be a bit higher compared to what you are used to in Colombo so make sure you stick to your budget. A public bus network is available to help travelers navigate around central Sharjah, although you can also rely on taxis or find car rental companies at the airport if you would prefer.
