Reaching your destination
Although you would think most travelers arriving at Sharjah International Airport come to visit Sharjah itself, the airport is so close to Dubai that many travelers fly in to Sharjah before continuing to Dubai by car. In addition to this, Sharjah is fairly close to Abu Dhabi so there is always the option of a day trip or longer stay there.
Located just 15 km from the airport, Sharjah is quick and easy to access by car. You can be in the center of Sharjah in just over 10 minutes along the E88 directly from Sharjah International Airport, although during peak traffic hours this can be a lot longer.
The magnificent city of Dubai is situated less than 40 km from Sharjah International Airport and can be reached in less than 30 minutes during normal traffic conditions. Directly from the airport it is quicker to drive along the E311, although if you are coming from central Sharjah itself you can make the trip on the E11 highway. If you’re also looking for accommodation, you can find great deals for Dubai hotels.
Abu Dhabi is considerably further south than Sharjah compared to Dubai and the trip will take you around 1 hour 45 minutes in optimum conditions, but the journey is well worth it to see the burgeoning city with the highlights including the Sheikh Zayed Mosque and the Louvre Abu Dhabi. The E11 highway directly connects Sharjah to Abu Dhabi and passes through Dubai. During busy traffic times it may be wise to get on the E311 from Sharjah to Dubai to bypass central Dubai before connecting to the E11. What to Expect in Sharjah
You can find ratings and great deals for hotels in Sharjah. Sharjah tends to be a mildly quieter and more laid-back driving experience compared to the busier cities of Dubai and Abu Dhabi, but you may want to avoid the roads during the morning and evening rush hours. You’ll find the streets are virtually empty on Fridays during the day, so this would be the opportune time to get out and about and explore. Remember that the climate is almost always hot and sunny in Sharjah across the year, so bring some protection for your eyes while you drive.
