Pyongyang International Airport, also known as Pyongyang Sunan International Airport, is the primary airport serving the capital of North Korea. Travelers looking to fly from London to Pyongyang will not be able to make the journey directly as no airlines operate direct flights. Currently the only two carriers operating flights to and from Pyongyang International Airport are Air Koryo and Air China, with the most popular route with Air China from Beijing to Pyongyang.

Airport Information - Arriving

Pyongyang International Airport is located around 25 km from the city and is comprised of a single passenger terminal. At the airport you can find a few restaurants and cafés available to re-energize with a meal or a drink, while you can also find duty-free shopping and a couple of convenience stores on-site. As almost all visitors to Pyongyang will be part of an accredited tour group or agency, transportation will likely be prearranged for you before you travel. However, the city is served by taxis so you will be able to reach your destination directly if necessary.

Airport Information - Departing

London Heathrow Airport is the primary airport serving London and also Europe’s busiest handling over 75 million travelers every year. The quickest way to get to the airport is on the Heathrow Express train service which takes just 15 minutes from London Paddington train station, although there are plenty of alternatives available including traveling on the London Underground. When you have arrived at the airport there is a wealth of things to do to keep you occupied while you wait for your flight. A huge range of retail, designer and duty-free stores are available and you will also be able to choose from numerous restaurants, cafés and fast food outlets to re-energize before your journey. Additional facilities available at the airport include complimentary Wi-Fi and many luxurious airport lounges.

What to Expect in Pyongyang

Over the summer Pyongyang can enjoy a lot of sunshine and highs of up to 28 degrees, although temperatures drop below freezing over the winter so be sure to pack appropriately. The city also experiences a rainy period in July and August when rainfall is much heavier than usual, so be prepared for the rain if you visit during this period.
